Pele Utu is a true Reno gem for island inspired escapism. This place has quickly become our home away from home, always fun rotating shows, and always great vibes from Shocker, Rosie, and all the bartenders. The vibe is so wildly different day by day that there really is something for everybody here once you figure out exactly what vibe you are looking for... Drinks here are fantastic and Shocker will talk your ear off about the history of his awesome collection of artifacts and the originations of his love for all things rum. The stories from himself and Rosie really make you appreciate a different time and the origins of not only this place, but their undying love for tiki. I can not wait for the net visit, I wish I could go even more.

Awesome Tiki vibe and atmosphere at a place serving incredible drinks. You’ll think you’re in an ocean side sailor’s bar in the 50’s this place.

My wife and I visited this tiki bar for the first time on a Wednesday evening. Including us. There were about eight people in the bar by 6:00 p.m.. they do not appear to serve food, but there is a wonderful Indian restaurant right next door. The lighting is very low and wild, per tiki standards! If like me you are reading menus with old eyes, each table does have a subtle lamp at the center that you can tap the top of to turn on a light to read by. I was pleasantly surprised that they do not water their drinks down like a lot of other bars I've been to. When you drink a zombie, for example, you will feel it. The bartender was right on top of everything, chatting with customers, but also immediately cutting off a conversation to take an order or deliver an order directly to a table. They have a small stage for live acts, and apparently every Thursday you can show up with your tiki mugs and/or swizzle sticks and trade them with other collectors!

If you build it, they will come. I can’t tell you how happy it made me to hear that a new Tiki spot had opened up in Reno. The last place/ Trader Dicks closed right around the time I first came to Reno and every visit here has felt a little unfulfilled…. UNTIL NOW! I loved the location- It was so nice to be away from all the touristy crap. The bar is connected to an Indian restaurant so BAM! Easy food option. As soon as we walked in you saw a group of collage age girls and they were having the best time, the bartender was taking awesome photos for them which I feel like you never get from a normal bartender.. well guess what? That bartender was an owner, that’s why she was extra awesome! We were greeted with a warm “Aloha” as soon as we got into the bar. Service was speedy and the bartenders did a great job of taking care of everyone that walked in. The drinks were very well balanced, and I can’t wait to work my way thru that whole menu. The lady’s bathroom décor had me rolling! If you are a regular, they have some great weekly swizzle trades, and it was soo cool to see a wall of regulars- personal tiki mugs for when they come in. You also get a pretty city scape view with the neon lights in the distance from the parking lot… just a little bonus. I can’t say enough good things about this place, Keep up the fantastic work Dr. Shocker and Rosie Raddish! ( I’m going to keep a lookout for blue octopus stuff now!) Very Drunkly Yours, The Bamboo Betty float purse lady.

At the tail end of a desert road trip, specifically stayed in Reno to try this new tiki bar. Owned and run by a husband and wife (who was a most wonderful hostess and bartendar), had a great afternoon of cocktails (jet pilot and rum barrel highly recommended) with the owners surrounded by their collection of tiki themed artifacts. Thank you. Thank you for a fun time. OK, it's not the Vegas Golden Tiki, but you can feel the personal touch and love of tiki throughout. Add it to your tiki bar tour! Only issue (and yes we are from Calif) was when one smoker arrived.
