  This place is seriously amazing. This would be the first restaurant I would recommend to anyone who asked me for Reno recs. It’s absolutely delicious, the service is amazing, and the price point is reasonable. I took my boyfriend for his birthday dinner, and we received amazing service! Yumi walked us through everything, let us sample the chicken meatballs, and gave us two pieces of cheesecake for his birthday! The food and dessert was great quality and the sauces they make in house were great. The food is super healthy including the desserts which are low cal. They also make udon soup for you take home with your leftovers! The location is also super cool. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Do not skip dessert because the cheesecakes are phenomenal!! We recommend the matcha 😊

  I cannot recommend Tadaima Shabu Shabu highly enough. We’ve been waiting for a real Shabu Shabu experience here in Reno, and WOW did this place deliver! From the moment we sat down, the experience felt personal, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in tradition. The owners themselves were part of the meal from start to finish. They didn’t just serve us shabu shabu, they taught us how to enjoy it in a warm and story-filled way that honored both the history and the joy of the practice. It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home. The service was truly above and beyond. Attentive without ever being intrusive, present throughout the meal, and clearly passionate about what they do. We shared many laughs. Every ingredient was fresh and beautifully prepared. The vegetables were vibrant and crisp, and the Wagyu beef was unreal, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Prepared shabu shabu style, you appreciate the flavor and quality even more. It was one of those “pause and savor each bite” kind of meals. A delightful surprise came at the end of the meal. The owner came to the table, gathered our broth and ingredients, and turned the remaining flavors into a traditional soup for us to take home! It was so thoughtful, and honestly a whole bonus meal at no extra cost. That alone would have been enough to set this place apart. But I have to talk about dessert. I love dessert, and I am very picky. We ordered the passionfruit cheesecake and it might be the best cheesecake I have tasted in my life. Bright, silky, balanced, and memorable. I actually plan to purchase an entire one to bring to Thanksgiving because it was that exceptional. They told us all about the local baker they work with and how he designed this cheesecake for their specific dining experience. This is not just a restaurant, it is a full experience. One filled with care, culture, flavor, and heart. Highly, highly recommend you check out Tadaima Shabu Shabu. It is a gem and we are already planning our next visit!

  I’ve never had shabu shabu before, so I was really excited to finally see a place open up here in town. I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be such a great experience. When my boyfriend and I went, we were the only ones there, and it felt like we were being welcomed into Sean and his wife’s home. They were super friendly and made us feel like we were trying their family’s special dish. The food was delicious, the vibe was cozy, and overall it was such a memorable experience!

  3.5 stars. The restaurant is within the basement of the old post office. We arrived at 7:30 PM for our dinner reservation. The building itself is closed, so you just have to call the owners to let you down the freight elevator. Try to have your party arrive together so they don't have to do multiple pick ups. Inside, we sat at the counter top. Each of us had our own individual stove tops. The menu was pretty self explanatory. Choose a meat and they'll teach you what to do. There were 6 of us, some of us wanted the same American Wagyu. It made sense to order 20 oz and share with our partner. The owner advised us not to share, as this would compromise the experience and it wouldn't come with additional veggies and sauce. We didn't understand why we couldn't just order an extra plate of veggies + sauce, but sure we just agreed bc we didn't want to oppose. My partner and I each ordered 7 oz (which is less meat and more expensive compared to ordering the 20 oz and additional sauce/veggies). They have a nice array of sake, wine, and even non alcoholic beer. It did take 1.5 hrs since we ordered for our food to come. The owner was nice and made good conversation. I saw in the back, Yumi (the owner/ wife) was slaving away in the back and hand cutting the meat. They did mention they were down 2 workers, but instead of talking to us, he could have helped her? I felt bad that she was doing so much work. When our food finally came, he taught us how to prepare the food. The veggies and meat were fresh and tasty. About 5 min later, he said "ok my job is done here" and proceeded to lay on the couch right next to us with his feet up and use his phone to watch videos on max volume. There was awkward silence, and one of the ladies in our party had to play background music to offset the awkward silence. In the end, he did use the rest of the ingredients to make the a soup for us to take home. I liked the no waste concept. I guess if you shared, you wouldn't each get the soup at the end but you're coming for the shabu not the soup, correct. We had a birthday cake and he gave us lighters and helped us prepare which was nice. Overall, I'm glad we came, but I don't think we would come again.
